Brigadier General S M Moniruzzaman, SGP, afwc, psc was commissioned into the Corps of Signals from the Bangladesh Military Academy on 11 June 1998 with the 38th BMA Long Course. Over nearly 28 years of distinguished service, he has held a wide range of command, staff, instructional and intelligence appointments. His service includes postings in 11, 2 and 6 Signal Battalions; appointment as Second-in-Command of 11 Signal Battalion; and commanding officer of 9 Signal Battalion in Ramu. He also served as Brigade Major of 86 Independent Signal Brigade and as General Staff Officer Grade-1 (Operations & Training) at the Headquarters Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC). In addition, he served extensively as an instructor at the School of Signals and the School of Military Intelligence, and as Detachment Commander of the Army Security Unit in Sylhet. Beyond core military roles, he successfully served as the Principal of Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt Anwar Girls’ College, Dhaka, and immediately prior to joining MCSK, as the Director General of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
An academically accomplished officer, Brigadier General Monir completed his SSC and HSC from Mirzapur Cadet College, placing in the merit list of Dhaka Board SSC examination in 1993 and securing star marks in HSC in 1995. He earned a First Division in BSc during training at the Military Academy and later completed four master’s degrees—MSc in Computer Science & Engineering, MBA, MSc in Military Studies, and MSS in Security & Development. He obtained the “psc” qualification from the Defence Services Command & Staff College and the “afwc” from the National Defence College, and is currently pursuing a PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals on moral development through secondary education. A three-time UN peacekeeper in Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Mali, he was awarded the Sena Gourab Padak (SGP) for gallantry, along with the National Integrity Award and a Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation.
